Owen Sound Sidewalk Astronomy hosted a relaxed community stargazing evening on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Kemble Athletic Field, with local astronomy enthusiasts and guests gathering to enjoy the night sky as darkness fell.

The event invited people of all ages to come out, wander between telescopes, ask questions, and take turns viewing celestial objects through a variety of instruments. Attendees were encouraged to bring their own telescope or simply enjoy views through equipment provided by local sky watchers.

As twilight settled over Kemble, participants had the opportunity to observe a waxing crescent Moon, Jupiter in the evening sky, Venus low near the horizon, and familiar northern sky patterns such as the Big Dipper. The informal format made the evening accessible for beginners, families, and experienced observers alike.

Events like this are an important part of building public interest in astronomy. They give community members a chance to see the sky through larger telescopes, learn from experienced observers, and experience the value of preserving dark, accessible night skies.

Bluewater Astronomical Society appreciates the efforts of Owen Sound Sidewalk Astronomy and the local volunteers who made the evening possible. Community stargazing nights help connect people with astronomy in a direct and memorable way — one view through the eyepiece at a time.
