BAS Member & Amateur Astronomer

Steve Ritchie

Astronomy has always been an interest. The first book I ever checked out of a library was an astronomy book. I think I was six years old. The pandemic was a time when a lot of people turned their gaze upward, and I was no exception. I chanced upon an opportunity to acquire my first serious telescope, a 12″ Dobsonian. As of the time of writing this I have traded up to a Sky-Watcher Stargate 18 dob, and my wife AnnMarie Rowland has her own ES8 dob. We are visual astronomers, dedicated to both our own celestial explorations and also sharing the experience with as many folks as possible on sidewalks, in parks and at various astronomy events.

Astronomy is fun for all ages

On bright moonlit nights, my wife AnnMarie and I share the joy of sidewalk astronomy—inviting people to view the Moon through our telescopes. Find us on Facebook at Owen Sound Sidewalk Astronomy.
