About This Image

LDN 1228 and LBN 552, sometimes called the 'Fighting Dragons', are faint dark molecular nebulae located in the constellation Cepheus, about 11 degrees from Polaris and are part of a larger molecular cloud complex. Both were cataloged by Beverly T. Lynds in 1965. These are very dim and require long exposures to bring out the structure details.
