The BAS holds regular Dark of the Moon viewing nights and other events at the observatory when weather conditions permit. Members may also make arrangements to use the E.S. Fox Observatory and/or the immediate area around it for their own viewing provided they follow the guidelines for observatory use.
The BAS believes that stargazing is an important connection to our past, our future and the natural environment. It’s fun, educational, and we enjoy sharing it with others. Our members volunteer in many activities bringing astronomy to students and the public whenever possible. We are always open to help with meeting presentations, public and private viewing nights and student education programs. We also encourage members to take a role in the leadership and operation of the Society.
Public volunteering opportunities usually involve allowing the public to view the night sky through member telescopes and may have a presentation component. Events and requests for volunteers are usually advertised at our monthly meetings and through email bulletins.
The BAS has a variety of telescopes and eyepieces available for loan to members including a solar scope.
